Training for my first postpartum race

Half marathon training has begun! Even thought it’s been a year since my daughter was born, I’m just now getting serious about running again. I’m currently training for the Wendell Foster Half Marathon on November 3 in Owensboro, KY (my hometown!).

I’m a month or so into half marathon training and so far, so good? I’ve definitely not been able to follow my training plan to a T, but I’ve moved things around and *almost* have all the miles needed “in the bank.”

Some runs have had to be stroller runs which has been so fun but so hard trying to manage! I love getting to run with my baby but man, does pushing a 20-pound baby (toddler?!) + plus a stroller wear a momma out! I need to a dedicate a whole post to stroller running because there is a lot to say!

If you’re new here (and read this far!) follow along with my running adventures on Instagram @mileswithmeghann.

But in all seriousness, I’m so happy to be back doing *my* thing. I was a runner in high school, throughout college and newlywed life and now I’m back at it as momma. I’m so proud of myself and how far I’ve come.

And to the all the miles I’ll go…

Stopping by my college town

A couple weeks ago my husband and I were able to stop through our college town — Murray, Kentucky!

While we drive through there often (it’s on our way to Ryan’s hometown) we never get to stop and walk through campus. Since we had some time to kill, we decided to grab a bite to eat and see some of our favorite spots.

The shoe tree (pictured below) is one of my favorite traditions at MSU.

A tradition since the late 1960s, Racer “sole” mates who meet on campus hang their shoes on the Shoe Tree, which is said to bring them a lifetime of good luck.

We nailed our shoes to the tree in 2014 when we got married. It’s so fun to come back five years and see them still there! We brought Murphy to walk around campus and it was so hot but so fun to reminisce on our college days!

Here is Murphy on the back steps of Pogue Library! I spent a lot of hours in there studying and writing stories for the college newspaper.

It’s been a crazy life around here lately so blog content is few and far between, I know. But I’m so thankful for those of you who check-in and read! Feel free to follow me on Instagram @mileswithmeghann for more regular posting.

Murphy has his own IG account now (@murphythemuttmix) so give him a follow too if you like adorable pups.

Happy Friday Eve!

Working in Music City

If you’ve followed for a while, you now my full-time job often gives me the chance to travel. So today I’m coming to you from Music City — aka NASHVILLE!

I’m here Wednesday – Saturday and I am pumped. Nashville is one of my favorite cities and I love being able to be back in the city where I ran my first marathon.

Also, check out the views from our cute AirBnB.

Since we’re in Music City, we encouraged all of our event attendees to wear band/musician shirts. I went for a classic — Dolly Parton. Love her.

We’re basically working 16 hour days while we are down here, so not a lot of time for running, but I am hoping to sneak in a couple miles at some point this week.

I hope you all have a great Thursday! Follow along for more on Instagram @mileswithmeghann.

Friday Favorites v.101

Today, as told by Lorelai Gilmore:

My plans for the weekend are to run a lot & sleep a lot. What are your weekend plans?

Some favorites from this week:

1. Uhm, can we talk about this weather? I don’t know about the rest of you, but in KY this morning it feels AH-MAZING. It feels like fall!

2. Kara Goucher’s new fall collection with Oiselle. I’ll take one of everything, please.

4. This post by Sara ad Her Soles had me rolling! It’s hilarious and something I would totally do if I ever met The Rock.

5. Tried the new mango dragonfruit refresher from Starbucks and it wasn’t too bad! Not my everyday drink, but something fun for every now and then.

6. I’ve been a lot more into social media lately than before (it comes and goes) so feel free to follow me on Twitter and Pinterest (@megkayrich), Facebook (Miles with Meghann) or Instagram (@mileswithmeghann).

7. The story of the world’s youngest face transplant patient. This is so interesting and kind of amazing. Science, man.

8. What I wish I was doing right now. #teamnosleep

HAPPY FRIDAY. Let’s do this.

Friday Favorites v.99

99! I can’t believe I’ve 99 of these posts. They are so fun and I love to look back on them. They always make me happy 🙂

Another full week has come and gone! I try not to wish days by, but since every day we are getting closer to moving into our new home, I am anxiously counting down the weeks, days, hours. Haha!

Let’s talk favorites.

1. Technically this is from last week, but it’s still a favorite. On Saturday, Ryan and I met up with some friends and headed across the river to a small drive-in theater. It’s one of my favorite summer traditions and I’m so glad we got to make it over there but their season ended.

We watched Incredibles 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp. They were both good movies, we ate a ton of candy and overall had a great time. We haven’t gotten out of the house in weeks, so this was a nice way to spend a weekend night.

2. All week long I’ve eaten a scrambled egg, with sauteed mushrooms and peppers, wrapped in a tortilla shell with spicy brown mustard. OMG — my new favorite. I can’t get enough. I even had it for breakfast AND lunch one day.

3. Julie’s Summer Spicy Peach and Corn Salad looks delicious! I can’t wait to make this sometime in the next week.

4. I’m doing Beachbody’s 80 Day Obessesion. While I am not doing them every day, they are fun to throw in on days I am not running or just do a mile or two.

5. These Formation Crops from Brooks are so pretty! I love crop leggings and I love the geometric style on these. I want all three colors!

7. One of my posts from my @mileswithmeghann Instagram was featured on the KT Tape Insta. Not gonna lie, I felt pretty cool. Haha.

8. Murphy is always a favorite. I mean, duh, I’m obsessed.

Adventures at Lake Norman – part one

On Saturday, after a day of flying, driving, grocery shopping and unpacking we finally got to enjoy Lake Norman and the awesome house we rented before hitting the hay.

This view is gorgeous!

I am so thankful for a job that allows me to travel and learn so much while doing so.

Also — look at these awesome bunkbeds — it reminds me of sleepaway camp.

On Sunday, we had free time before some more of our team arrived so I got to try kayaking! It was so much fun and easier than I thought it would be. I’m hoping to try paddleboarding later this week.

I haven’t had any time to run, but I’ve eaten some really great and healthy meals. I’ll be sure to check back in a few days.

RNR Nashville Marathon Training — Week 16

I seriously cannot believe my 16 weeks of training has come to an end. This last week has been so crazy — the least amount of miles I’ve run since this program started.

My legs are restless and I am ready to run. All of my training is in the bank and now it’s time to see what I can do!

Ryan and I are driving down to Nashville on Friday to enjoy the expo, some food and get lots of rest before the race! Can’t wait to recap the race for you all! Follow along on Instagram @mileswithmeghann for all of my adventures from the weekend (expo, race, concert, etc!)
