A Day in the Life – Morning Workout Edition

Balancing a full-time job outside the home, a side gig, being a mother and wife – all while trying to workout is a lot. We all (mothers, parents, people in general) are all trying to balance.

I enjoy reading other people’s day in the life posts – so here’s mine.

5:19 a.m. Alarm goes off!

Every Tuesday and Thursday I work out a small group and a personal trainer. It’s 45 minutes strength training and leaves me feeling exhausted and recharged all at the same time. I love it. I can definitely see improvements in my strength since I’ve been going to these sessions. Plus, I can leave everyone at home sleeping.

6:35 a.m. Get back home and get ready for work

Owensboro is the perfect sized city and it takes me about 10 minutes to get home from the gym. Once I get home, I do my Write the Word and then start getting ready for work. Since I don’t wear makeup and keep my hair pretty simple, I can usually get ready in about 15 minutes or less. Emery has been sleeping until 7-7:15 a.m. so I can get myself ready before I get her up. Once she’s up, she get changes and dressed and then it’s a kiss to Ryan and Murphy and out the door!

7:30 a.m. Drop off Emery, head to work

We’ve been blessed with my dad being retired and willing to watch Emery while Ryan and I work. Whenever I drop her off with him, he usually is making breakfast for the two of them. I chat for a few minutes and then head to work.

7:45ish a.m. Get to work

Sometimes I eat breakfast at home, sometimes I stop at Chick-fil-A for a chicken biscuit. I’m usually the first one from my team to get to the office, so I start checking emails and figuring out my game plan for the day. I work a traditional 8-5 in the office and my role involves event planning, gift-giving, digital marketing and content creation. Every day is different and I truly love my job and the people I get to work with.

1 p.m. Lunchtime!

I am lucky that I am able to go home on my lunch break. I usually grab something to eat, walk Murphy and tidy up the house (because something always needs to be cleaned, right?!)

2-5 p.m. Work work work

`At 5 p.m. I head to my parent’s house to pick up Emery and head home!

5:30-7ish p.m. play time, bath

When the weather is nice, we all (me, Ryan, Emery and Murphy) go for walks around the neighborhood or to a park near our house. Then we play with ALL THE TOYS and our house looks like a disaster. Then it’s bath time, story time and bed for Emery. Ryan and I usually catch up on some work or stuff around the house and then eat supper around 7:30-8 p.m.

8-10 p.m. tv and chores

We’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy lately (we started it last year and are finally on Season 16) and usually watch an episode or two a night. Then we split dishes and laundry + whatever else needs to be done around the house. I take a shower, lay out my clothes for the next and then usually pass out around 10:30 p.m.

So there you have it! A typical day in the life for the days I wake up early to work out. Things shift a little when I workout after work and then weekend are all over the place depending on what we have going on.

What do your days look like?

Saturday eats

Happy Saturday! Popping in for just a quick post on what I ate today.  It’s fun documenting what all I eat in a day and I always love reading these posts. Enjoy!

Breakfast:

Before lunch I was cleaning out my fridge and ended up eating a few bites of cookie dough. If kale tasted like cookie dough, I’m sure I would be a heck of a lot healthier.

Lunch: Blueberry and spinach bowl. I have been on a huge smoothie bowl kick lately and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.

Snack: pineapple popsicle!

Supper: Since today has been kind of crazy, I’m looking forward to something simple, fast and easy for supper tonight. These frozen meals from Aldi are the perfect thing! They are made healthy ingredients and don’t have all the extra sodium that most frozen meals have. img_1710

I hope you all have a great long weekend!

Sunday Funday

Yesterday was a such a fun day! It was one of those days I needed without knowing it.

Ryan and I got to meet up with a college friend for lunch. He was passing through Owensboro on the way back to his summer job and our schedules worked out perfectly for him to meet us at Buffalo Wild Wings. We ate too much food and spent almost two hours catching up and reminiscing on our college days.

After lunch, I said bye to the guys, while they hung out some more. Once our friend left, Ryan had a tee time with some of the guys from his work, so Murphy and I went to the park! Since the humidity has broken, the weather has been perfect. We walked the trails, sat by the pond and watched the ducks and roamed the empty baseball fields for about an hour before coming home.

Murphy was exhausted after our adventure, so he slept on the couch, while I did some meal prepping. After I got breakfast made for the week, I went out to our home gym (garage) and knocked out a couple miles and some inverted pull-ups.

Once Ryan got home, we ate tacos on the couch and watched a couple episodes of Parks and Rec. Instead of going to bed at a normal hour, we then decided to stay up way too late and watch random, hilarious YouTube videos.

Have a great Monday! Let’s make this week great!

Day in the Life — May 2017

It’s been five months since my last Day in The Life post so I thought it’d be fun to change things up today and share a glimpse into my Tuesday. If you want to peek behind the curtain more often, follow me (@megkayrich) on Twitter and Instagram!

6 AM: My alarm goes off. I debate sleeping in and just straightening my hair, but decide to get up and curl it instead.

6:30 AM: After my hair is fixed and I’m dressed, I take Murphy out for a little walk and for him to do his business. He is not a morning pup, so once he’s done, he gets back in bed with Ryan while I tidy up the house (wash any stray dishes, prep lunches, etc) and fix his KONG toys for the day.

7 AM: Finish up any chores, scroll through social media, get the paper and head out the door. Ryan works later in the day, so I leave him and Murphy in bed for a couple more hours.

7:15ish AM: Lately breakfast has been very grab-and-go. It’s a very busy season at my job, and I like to get to work early and get started on some of my big projects before the office gets really busy.

7:35 AM: Get to work. It’s me, my boss and one reporter. It’s nice and quiet. I answer some emails and get started on work.

9 AM: Most of the reporters and my other co-workers are in the office by now. We talk about the local news, what’s new on Netflix and any other office gossip. I also try to take a couple laps around the building at this point. I hate sitting for so long. I really wish we could have standup desks.

9:30 AM – Noon: Work work work work work work. Lots of emails, phone calls, meeting, and writing.

12:15 PM: Head home for lunch. Let Murphy out of his crate, play fetch, eat lunch.

1:30 PM: Back to work. More writing and meetings.

3:30ish PM: Snack time! Great Harvest banana chocolate chip muffins are the best afternoon treat.

5 PM: Leave work and head home!

5:15ish PM: Play some fetch with Murphy before starting my workout. Lately, I’ve been doing 2-3 miles on the treadmill, some free weights and abs.

6 PM: Start dinner. Tonight is tacos!

6:35 PM: Ryan gets home! We eat dinner and watch some tv.

7:30 PM: We stretch and sometimes do pushups and crunches in our living room. We love some healthy competition. I also lose when it comes to pushups.

8:15 PM: Watch a few episodes of The Office, our favorite show. No matter how many times we watch it, it never gets old.

9:30-10 PM: Get ready for bed. Lights out.

Pretty normal schedule to me, but I still love these posts. What did your day look like?
