Some of my go-to workouts

Guys, I tried this workout from Fitnessista last Friday and holy smokes, it was a killer! So many squats and lunges! My legs were on fire. It hurt a little on Saturday but after some stretching and foam rolling, all my tightness seemed to work itself out.

I’ve been trying to save body weight workouts on my phone, that way I have no excuse to not do a workout. If I ever get stuck in a rut, I just open my phone and choose from one of the many workouts I have saved and bam! instant inspiration.

Here are some of my favorites I have saved:

Cardio HIIT Workout.

45 Minute Interval Treadmill Workout.

10 to 1 Body Weight Workout.

Yoga for Runners.

Total Body HIIT Workout.

Walking Treadmill Workout Roundup.

Let me know if you use any of these workouts! They are all so fun and make you work up a sweat.

Search my blog for more inspiration and let me know what kind of workouts you want to see on the blog.

Working out and traveling

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I always do my best workouts on the weekends. I don’t have as many time constraints, I can focus on my workout and I have plenty of time to stretch, warmup and cool down.

But when I travel on the weekends, I feel like I can’t get workout as well as I want.

* I had to include this hilarious picture I took of Murphy while we were traveling.

That was the case this weekend. We visited my in-laws in Tennessee and had a great time, but my workouts suffered.

Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. My family is more important than any workout, but getting in one sweat sesh a day makes me feel better and helps me be the best version of myself.

So while I didn’t get to run and have a killer total body workout, I did get it some solid movements and walks with Murph that worked up some endorphins.

So don’t beat yourself if you chose to spend time with family rather than working out. While I missed my workouts, I know they will be waiting for me Monday afternoon after work.

Movin’ & Groovin’

Yesterday I killed my workout. I ran a mile for a warmup, did a 24 minute HIIT workout and finished with some sprints in the yard with Murphy. *I wish I had the stamina of my dog. I was dying and he was happy as could be running laps around our yard.*

There is no such thing as a bad workout. Every movement counts. Burning calories in your garage is the same as burning them in a gym.

Put in the work and you will see results. #MotivationWednesday. Here’s a recap of my workout yesterday.

Lift all the things. Strength training makes you strong (duh) and helps burn fat. I’m starting to get baby arm muscles!!!

Trying to get a picture while doing jumping jacks is a lot harder than it looks. This is the best I could get. Enjoy.

Non-scale victories

While I am usually someone who likes to see hard and results, losing weight and getting healthy is teaching me a lot about patience and hard work.

I have a scale at home, but the batteries in it have been dead for months. I decided not to replace them because I didn’t want to let the scale define my happiness. I used to weigh myself every morning and if I was at a “good” number then I would be happy for the rest of the day. But, if I was unhappy with the number I saw then I automatically started my day in a bad mood. So instead of judging myself based on a number, I’ve been trying to look for and enjoy the non-scale victories in every day.

This week I hit two non-scale victories and I was so proud of both. While I usually eat super healthy for breakfast and lunch, snacking at night has always been a problem. I could eat half a bag of chips without thinking about it and then feel like crap later. I felt like I had no willpower. But for the last three days, I’ve been eating healthy, saying no when I’m full and not eating a ton of chips every night. It’s a powering thing to take control of your life and what/how you eat.

My other NSV was one of my favorite pair of work pants being looser!

Sometimes it’s hard to see how far you’ve come, especially if you’re not keeping track of hard and fast numbers and facts. But these NSV are to be celebrated and used as a reminder that the work I am putting in is working.

So here’s to another day of working hard, running for fun and my health, eating some greens and loving my life. Happy Friday Eve!

30 minute burn bootcamp

Even when I don’t run every day, I like to try and do something that makes me break a sweat. Lately. I’ve been into short and sweaty at home workouts. I try to get in cardio, upper body, lower body and core all in one workout — and this does the trick!

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

CARDIO

Jumping jacks
Squat jumps

CORE

Friday Favorites v.44

It’s here! We are only hours away from the weekend! I hope the sun is shining wherever you are and your coffee is extra strong today. My plans for the weekend include lots of house and yard work and an Easter party on Sunday. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Let’s get back to our regularly scheduled programming and get the day started!

1. So I’m late to the game with this one, but Ryan and I just rented Moana last weekend and I have been listening to the soundtrack nonstop this week.

2. From the Oiselle blog: Oiselle is thrilled to announce the launch of our GOT (Girls On Track) Bras charitable donation program. The GOT Bras mission is to help girls stay active and see physical activity as lifelong pursuit. We plan to donate at least 2,000 sports bras in 2017, and to share educational content about how to accurately choose and fit a sports bra, and understand our changing bodies. In 2018 and beyond, we plan to increase donations and produce “first-bra” designs just for girls.

3. Saw this on Janae’s blog earlier this week and I really like it.

4. I WON TICKETS TO SEE TIM MCGRAW AND FAITH IN CONCERT. Guys. I am so pumped.

5. Lies Instagram tells.

6. The sun is shining, it’s finally stopped raining and it’s supposed to be warm all weekend! I hope the weather is perfect wherever you are. I am planning on soaking up as much sunshine as possible these next three days.

7. Gotcha! Grandma pranks her husband with classic water bottle ‘magic trick’ in hilarious viral video – and BOTH of their reactions are priceless.

8. Puppy cuddles with my favorite.

Fitness favorites

Making fitness a part of my every day routine is not easy. Even though I love running and working out, sometimes getting started is the hardest part.

So today I’m rounding up my fitness favorites to hopefully to give you some inspiration if you’re in a fitness rut. Remember, getting started is the hardest part and you never regret a run or workout.

A killer playlist, a fun (but challenging!) workout and some brightly colored running tights and shoes are just a few of my fitness must-haves.

Some of my fitness apparel must-haves.

Recently, I’ve also tried the Aaptiv app. I’ve tried several fitness apps before, but this one is pretty neat. There is a one week free trial, so you have plenty of time to try it out before you decide whether or not to purchase it! (I hate buying apps, but I understand the reasoning)

They have a good variety of workouts from walking programs to tempo runs and full body strength training (something every runner should do!)

One great thing about this app it that it’s nice to not have to think about or plan my workout. The trainers (at least the ones I’ve tried) on the Aaptiv app are encouraging without being annoying.

I don’t know about you, but for my treadmill runs, I have to have music. I basically prefer to listen to music during any type of fitness activity unless I’m running outside. Then I just enjoy being alone with my thoughts and nature.

Music helps me stay focused and certain songs help me power through tough sets and the end of a run when my legs are super tired.

January 2017 playlist. and June 2016 playlist.

Bruno Mars has been my go-to man for treadmill songs lately.

After my workout, I love this protein-packed smoothie.

What products do you use to maximize your workout? Do you have a favorite shoe, protein powder, etc?

Do you ever use apps to help you workout? Which ones do you love? Have you tried Aaptiv yet?

Friday Favorites v. 42

The first Friday of Spring is here! While the warmer weather hasn’t decided whether or not it wants to stay in Kentucky or not, I am excited for some sunshine and the hope of temps above 60.

On the agenda for this weekend is painting our spare bedroom and doing some Spring cleaning! (Which may not sound exciting to some of you, but I am pumped).

Before the weekend begins let’s talk Friday Favorites.

1. Finding old photos! After my workout earlier this week I decided to organize the grave some and ended up finding all kinds of photo albums and scrapbooks from middle and high school. It was so fun to look back at all the memories.

*This is a picture of my mom, one of my best friends who just became a momma this week and me from one of our many trips to Florida. So thankful to have these memories.

2. Meet Jake, the newest Budweiser Clydesdale. As a die-hard Cardinals fan, I love everything that has to do with STL, baseball and beer. Last year, Ryan and I got the chance to tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery and visit the Clydesdale Stables.

3. “Diet, like training, is always a work in progress.” SO TRUE. Love this.

4. This key lime pie Greek yogurt is the bomb. I love it. I’ve been eating it after dinner for a sweet snack.

5. New emojis are coming this summer! I am pumped for the dino emoji. I surprisingly need to use that one a lot (I’ve been using the turtle as a replacement)

6. Thursday marked three years since Ryan proposed! I still remember the day so clearly. I hope it’s something I never forget.

7. I’ve been trying a new fitness app called Aaptiv. So far, so good! I plan on having a roundup of some of my fitness favorites on Monday, so be on the lookout for a mini review of the app!

8. Murphy’s favorite spot in the entire house.
