30 minute burn bootcamp

Even when I don’t run every day, I like to try and do something that makes me break a sweat. Lately. I’ve been into short and sweaty at home workouts. I try to get in cardio, upper body, lower body and core all in one workout — and this does the trick!

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Friday Favorites v.44

It’s here! We are only hours away from the weekend! I hope the sun is shining wherever you are and your coffee is extra strong today. My plans for the weekend include lots of house and yard work and an Easter party on Sunday. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Let’s get back to our regularly scheduled programming and get the day started!

1. So I’m late to the game with this one, but Ryan and I just rented Moana last weekend and I have been listening to the soundtrack nonstop this week.

2. From the Oiselle blog: Oiselle is thrilled to announce the launch of our GOT (Girls On Track) Bras charitable donation program. The GOT Bras mission is to help girls stay active and see physical activity as lifelong pursuit. We plan to donate at least 2,000 sports bras in 2017, and to share educational content about how to accurately choose and fit a sports bra, and understand our changing bodies. In 2018 and beyond, we plan to increase donations and produce “first-bra” designs just for girls.

3. Saw this on Janae’s blog earlier this week and I really like it.

4. I WON TICKETS TO SEE TIM MCGRAW AND FAITH IN CONCERT. Guys. I am so pumped.

5. Lies Instagram tells.

6. The sun is shining, it’s finally stopped raining and it’s supposed to be warm all weekend! I hope the weather is perfect wherever you are. I am planning on soaking up as much sunshine as possible these next three days.

7. Gotcha! Grandma pranks her husband with classic water bottle ‘magic trick’ in hilarious viral video – and BOTH of their reactions are priceless.

8. Puppy cuddles with my favorite.

Fitness favorites

Making fitness a part of my every day routine is not easy. Even though I love running and working out, sometimes getting started is the hardest part.

So today I’m rounding up my fitness favorites to hopefully to give you some inspiration if you’re in a fitness rut. Remember, getting started is the hardest part and you never regret a run or workout.

A killer playlist, a fun (but challenging!) workout and some brightly colored running tights and shoes are just a few of my fitness must-haves.

Some of my fitness apparel must-haves.

Recently, I’ve also tried the Aaptiv app. I’ve tried several fitness apps before, but this one is pretty neat. There is a one week free trial, so you have plenty of time to try it out before you decide whether or not to purchase it! (I hate buying apps, but I understand the reasoning)

They have a good variety of workouts from walking programs to tempo runs and full body strength training (something every runner should do!)

One great thing about this app it that it’s nice to not have to think about or plan my workout. The trainers (at least the ones I’ve tried) on the Aaptiv app are encouraging without being annoying.

I don’t know about you, but for my treadmill runs, I have to have music. I basically prefer to listen to music during any type of fitness activity unless I’m running outside. Then I just enjoy being alone with my thoughts and nature.

Music helps me stay focused and certain songs help me power through tough sets and the end of a run when my legs are super tired.

January 2017 playlist. and June 2016 playlist.

Bruno Mars has been my go-to man for treadmill songs lately.

After my workout, I love this protein-packed smoothie.

What products do you use to maximize your workout? Do you have a favorite shoe, protein powder, etc?

Do you ever use apps to help you workout? Which ones do you love? Have you tried Aaptiv yet?

Friday Favorites v. 42

The first Friday of Spring is here! While the warmer weather hasn’t decided whether or not it wants to stay in Kentucky or not, I am excited for some sunshine and the hope of temps above 60.

On the agenda for this weekend is painting our spare bedroom and doing some Spring cleaning! (Which may not sound exciting to some of you, but I am pumped).

Before the weekend begins let’s talk Friday Favorites.

1. Finding old photos! After my workout earlier this week I decided to organize the grave some and ended up finding all kinds of photo albums and scrapbooks from middle and high school. It was so fun to look back at all the memories.

*This is a picture of my mom, one of my best friends who just became a momma this week and me from one of our many trips to Florida. So thankful to have these memories.

2. Meet Jake, the newest Budweiser Clydesdale. As a die-hard Cardinals fan, I love everything that has to do with STL, baseball and beer. Last year, Ryan and I got the chance to tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery and visit the Clydesdale Stables.

3. “Diet, like training, is always a work in progress.” SO TRUE. Love this.

4. This key lime pie Greek yogurt is the bomb. I love it. I’ve been eating it after dinner for a sweet snack.

5. New emojis are coming this summer! I am pumped for the dino emoji. I surprisingly need to use that one a lot (I’ve been using the turtle as a replacement)

6. Thursday marked three years since Ryan proposed! I still remember the day so clearly. I hope it’s something I never forget.

7. I’ve been trying a new fitness app called Aaptiv. So far, so good! I plan on having a roundup of some of my fitness favorites on Monday, so be on the lookout for a mini review of the app!

8. Murphy’s favorite spot in the entire house.

Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored. It’s a just a roundup of some my favorite things, products, etc from the week.

Friday Favorites v. 39

This picture accurately sums up my feelings for today.

I am so pumped it is the weekend and while it is supposed to be cold, I have lots of fun things planned — visiting family, short road trip, lots of running and eating and movie night!

Before the weekend begins I need to get through work and this blog post. Enjoy this week’s Friday Favorites!

1. It’s officially March! We have an adorable puppy calendar on our fridge at home and I love looking at these precious faces each and every month.

Also, we are so close to baseball opening day! Ryan and I are making our annual trip to STL in May for some games and I am so pumped!

2. It’s OKAY to Feel Like Quitting

3. On Wednesday I ran my first (modified) Yasso workout. While I only did 4 800 repeats instead of the desired, it was a good start and help my determine my fitness as of right now. Good news? I finished them faster than I was expecting. Badish news? They were HARD.

4. I’ve been spending lots of quality time with my foam roller this week. I have this one and I love it. It was cheap and does the job.

5. Here’s why journalists stay in the business. — For those who are curious why I stay in my field of work.

6. I screenshotted this earlier in the week and I need these shorts. You’ve done it again, Oiselle.

7. The Voice is back! While I’m not a die-hard fan, when you have a limited number of tv channels (we don’t have cable or internet at our house), you watch what you can! I’m also glad Gwen is back as a coach. I really like Miley, but I think Gwen fits in with this group so much better.

8. Really wishing it was summer and I could spend all day at the park with Murphy.

What is one thing you are looking forward to this weekend?

Do you watch The Voice? Who is your favorite coach?

Trust the process

Last week running 3 miles was hard. While I was keeping about a 10 minute/mile pace, it was HARD. Like struggle bus city.

This week? Three miles has felt easy. I’ve either brought my pace down, or stayed around a 10 minute pace, but felt so much stronger.

Not running for months killed my endurance and my mental game. While I am so thankful to have a treadmill at home now where I can run every day, coming back has been no walk in the park.

I’m still working on my endurance and I’ve only had one four mile run this year. My mental game is so weak and since I’m at home and on a treadmill (where I can just stop and go in the house) I feel like I should be doing 10 other things rather than running.

I saw something on Facebook yesterday that really resonated with how I’ve been feeling personally, at work and with running — “you can either run the day or the let day run you.”

THAT IS SO TRUE. For me, it’s all about my mindset. If I come into work with a positive attitude, get to work and start knocking out my to-do list, then I feel so much better.

Once I get into the miles, I feel better (on like 10 different levels).

So while day-by-day it may not look like I am making much progress, in a month or six months or a year, I can look back and see how much it’s all changes. My miles will be faster, I will be stronger and I will be happy with the journey.

Trust the process. Put it in the work. Results will come.

Fitness goals for February

Writing my goals down always makes them seem more real, doesn’t it? With January coming to a close, I am ready to start February strong.

Coming back from the holidays, I got my rear in gear and started eating better and working out more. Now that I’m on track, I plan on working more on my fitness goals next month.

What are your goals for the upcoming month?

You’re still a runner even if you have to walk

Here is something it took me a while to figure out a runner.

IT IS OKAY TO WALK.

I’ve been a runner for almost a decade now. While I like to think I know a little bit about being a runner and how to train for a specific distance or prep for a race, I still have so much to learn.

My most recent takeaway from this sport? Is that it is okay to walk.

In the past (and even sometimes now, don’t get me wrong) I always felt like I wasn’t a true runner if I had to walk. Walking was a sign of weakness. A sign of defeat.

But now, I see walking as being smart. Pushing myself to the point of injury is not smart. Taking the time to slow down and evaluate myself and my fitness is the best thing I can do as a runner. Hell, if I am tired and need a lap/minute/block to recover and catch my breath in order to continue on, then I walk.

WALKING DOESN’T MAKE YOU LESS OF A RUNNER.
*louder for those in the back, please*

img_0104

The more I run, the more I love my body. Not because it’s perfect, not because I’m fast, but because every damn mile that it took to get here (whether I was running or walking) proves to me that I am strong and capable of more than I ever thought was possible.

Running isn’t about being the best. It’s about being better than you used to be. Remember, there is magic in misery (thank you, Dean Karnazes).

Friday Favorites v. 32

Well today is cold and rainy, but I am determined to make the best of it because it’s FRIDAY! I have nothing planned for this weekend and I am so excited.

1. MY TREADMILL IS SET UP. We (mainly Ryan) have moved this bad boy three times now trying to find a place where it will fit, not shake the floor and where we won’t hit our heads on the ceiling. While I wanted it in the house, the garage seemed to be the best fit. My first run on it is tonight!
2. I LOVE The Office and Dwight is one of the best characters. So here you go, 31 Dwight Schrute quotes to live your life by.

3. Ponds Nourishing Moisturizer. This is a tip from my mom. She loves this stuff. It’s super thick and creamy but unlike a lot of lotions doesn’t leave a slimy residue and smells so clean!

4. I’m not usually one to get into a political debate, but there was A LOT of news this week with Obama’s Farewell Speech, Biden getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Michelle Obama being on Jimmy Fallon (plus all the bad news with Trump). While I may not have agreed with everything Obama did while in office, I will say I think he (and Michelle!) was a great influence on our country and the younger generations. I hope their kindness was shown to the world and I hope others pray for this transition in America.

6. Go-Dry Fitted Mesh-Trim Leggings for Women from Old Navy. I don’t have these in the “pant” version, but I have the crops. Plus the color is gorgeous. I love Old Navy’s workout line and can’t wait to get my hands on these. They are on sale for $28 right now!

7. These tassel earrings deserve all the heart eyes.

8. This pup could sleep anywhere.img_0058-1
