Favorites from marathon training

So instead of my usual Friday Favorites post, I thought I would post something a little different instead — favorite from marathon training!

This post is NOT sponsored. Just sharing some products I love that have gotten m through training for my first marathon.

I am in the home stretch of marathon training! Since I have lasted through almost 16 weeks of training, I thought I would share some of my favorite things with you all!

Brooks Glycerin 15
These shoes have been my saving grace during all of my runs since January.  They have so much support and I got them properly fitted (a half size up from what I normally wear) and my toes have been singing praises. I recommend Brooks shoes to any runner.

KT Tape
My knees have been a big point of caution for me during this training cycle. To be honest, I was a little skeptical about using KT Tape. I absolutely did not think it would help me — and I was so wrong!

My NordicTrack Commercial 1750 treadmill
Basically, the first three months of training were almost solely on my treadmill. I even ran a half marathon and one 14-miler on my treadmill during training.

ProCompression Socks
After seeing ProCompression socks all over Instagram (#keepittight) and finding a coupon code on Facebook, I decided to buy some and see what they were all about.

So when I found a discount to get FIVE pairs for the price of two you best believe I ran to my computer to buy some.

Gu Chews
While in the past I’ve typically stuck with strawberry-only Gu — this year I changed it up and started taking the cran-razz flavor. It’s definitely a new favorite. After my race, I am thinking about trying some new nutrition (honey stinger waffles, bonk bars, huma gel, etc)

FitBit Blaze
While at first, I was only going to use this watch for day-to-day wear, it’s kind of become my go-to running watch. I reviewed it early on but I love it more every day.

What are some of your running-related favorites? Let me know in the comments below!

Friday Favorites v.94

Happy Friday, friends! This was my last full week of work before I head to Miami on Tuesday for a work event. So while I’ll still be working Monday – Friday, it’ll be nice to be in the sunshine state instead of in cold and dreary Kentucky.

How is the weather where you are? It snowed here on our first day of Spring. *groans* I am ready to sunshine (and to run outside every day).

1. I’m thinking of making these my new everyday shoe?

2. Since I work in the newspaper/media/designer world, this was super interesting to me. Fonts are so cool.

3. March Madness! I am so glad for the return of basketball last night even though my beloved Kentucky Wildcats lost.

4. I tried a new coffee shop in town this week called The Spot and I am in love! It’s a quirky place that really epitomizes the shop local culture. Plus their blended espressos were the bomb.com.

5. Why U.S. women marathoners are having a moment.

6. No-bake cookies. I used to only get these in elementary school, but a local bakery has been making them lately and I am hooked.

7. I’m getting a pedicure after work today! These runner’s feet need some lovin’,

8. Cute, sleeping pupper.

Friday Favorites v.91

This was my first week at my new job! It was a week full of learning, training, and transition, but it was a lot of fun and I’m excited for what’s to come!

So since it’s been such a busy week, I’ve had to cut back on posting on this week. I’m hoping to be back at 100% in the next couple weeks, but there are lots of exciting things going on in the Richardson household!

But lets talk about a few favorites from this week.

1. Look at all these cute shamrock items from Brooks!

2. My seven mile run on Wednesday. It was exactly the boost I needed going into this weekend. I also get to run with a friend today, which is such a treat!

3. Tuesday’s post on my favorite workout gear for Spring.

4. Found out earlier this week that I will get to travel to Miami and Naples Florida in the next two months for work. Yay for warm weather, my first trip on a plane and warm weather!

5. Kentucky man runs a marathon in all 50 states in one year. Yay KY!

6. YES YES YES. #Runderful

7. What happened after I spoke out about fat shaming at the NYC marathon.

8. Murph and his memaw.

Workout gear for Spring

We are less than one month away from the first day of Spring! I thought it would be fun to roundup some of my favorite running and workout gear for Spring! Some of these products I already own and some are in my cart waiting for me to check out 😉

Brooks Ghost Racerback. I love the fun colors on this tank and the fabric is so light and cool.

Oiselle Flyte Tank. This material is the best!

Nike Miller Running Top. I have this in blue and it’s so breathable. I usually don’t like running in short sleeves, but this one is a winner!

I really want these spandos shorts. Longer than the mini, they look perfect for someone with bigger legs (like me) plus they come in such a cute print!

Team 3/4 Tights. I basically want everything from Oiselle.

ProCompression over-the-calf socks. These are so bright and the colors remind me of Easter!

These are the shoes (Brooks Glycerin 15) I am currently wearing while training for my first marathon. I love how much support they have.

I love these Balega socks. I’ve been running in them since my high school cross country days and they are my favorite “low cut” sock.

Asics color block bra.

The best running belts for storing all your stuff.

KT Tape! They have some fun colors, so at least you can look cute while being all wrapped up.

Friday Favorites v.90

I have some news to post later today, but this is the end of a very bittersweet week. So it’s weird seeing it come to an end.

But let’s get back to some normalcy and talk Friday Favorites.

1. This post is so neat! I follow Carlee on Instagram and her #CarleesTreasures posts are always so interesting. After a year of collecting things on her runs, she has decided to turn her findings into art!

2. The weather on Monday and Tuesday was glorious! Temps in the low to mid-70s and a nice breeze. It makes me so excited for summer!

3. Feeling confident and strong enough to run in a sports bra (even if it was just me and my dog alone in the garage). Seven miles in a sports bra never felt so good!

4. Ryan and I are road tripping to Tennessee for the weekend to spend some time with his family for his mom’s birthday.

5. This Run Happy tank from Brooks!
Screen Shot 2018-02-22 at 2.17.46 PM.png

6. The story behind the style: the flyte collection expands. Oh ya know, just more love for one of my favorite companies, Oiselle.

7. 22 Outstanding women journalists from the last 100 years. The journalist in me loves this article. So informative! I’m also prepping a presentation for young girls at our local library next month and I get to talk about women in media. Yay!

8. Poor Murph always freaks out during the first 5-10 minutes of my run. Then he runs around the garage like a crazy person. 🤷🏼‍♀️

ProCompression socks review

This post is NOT sponsored. This is just a product that I enjoy that I want to share with you all!

I’m a pretty easy customer. Give me a product that looks good, feels good and works for me and I’m sold. After seeing ProCompression socks all over Instagram and finding a coupon code on Facebook, I decided to buy some and see what they were all about.

So when I found a discount to get FIVE pairs for the price of two you best believe I ran to my computer to buy some.
From the ProCompression website: Everyone can benefit from stepping into PRO Compression products—because increased circulation is always a good thing. Whatever you do—from standing all day on the job to hoofing across 18 holes, from flying frequently for business to competing in triathlons—our socks and sleeves will help you perform at your peak and feel your very best.

I’ve worn these socks for several runs now, both outside and on the treadmill, and I love them! They don’t slide down, they don’t pinch under the knee and no blisters on my feet. They seem to help with soreness during my run and recovery afterward!

ProCompression products are also made in the USA — another win!
*This Valentine’s pattern might be favorite out of all of them!*
**Legs up the wall is my favorite post-run pose.**

If you are thinking of trying a pair out, be sure to check their social media channels for a discount code!

Have you ever tried compression socks/sleeves? What were your thoughts?

Friday Favorites v.88

Anyone else have those weeks that are just so mentally draining? This week was one of them for me. Stress from work and not great runs had me a little bummed, but I’m trying to stay positive and take it a day at a time.

So let’s talk positive! Let me know a favorite thing, story, or memory from this week.

1. Julie’s most-used kitchen items post from Thursday. I have some of the items, but now I’m looking into the soap-dispensing brush.

2. I found a great discount code on ProCompression’s Facebook page and got FIVE pairs of their compression socks for only $100. I can’t wait for them to arrive! Fingers crossed they come in by tomorrow afternoon so I can wear them after my 13-mile run.
3. Did you see my post from earlier this week about the Run Rock N Roll improvements? So many great, new changes are coming to the race series and I am so excited to run RnR Nashville in April!

4. It was Spotlight week in my intro to media writing class!

5. The Doritos commercial from Sunday’s SuperBowl. Which commercial was your favorite this year? I feel like they were all pretty mild and not super interesting.

6. 5 Instagram-worthy dessert bars.

7. I’m pretty I’ve mentioned this in a Friday Favorites post before, but tomato basil soup from Great Harvest is my absolute FAV in the winter time. I could drink it (yes, I drink my soup) every day.

8. Murphy loves to sunbathe.

Running gifts for your Valentine

Runners are usually pretty easy to buy for — some new gear, an entry to a race or even a massage makes us happy. But for Valentine’s Day, I decided to compile a list of some unique, fun and simple gift ideas.

Running gifts for your Valentine.jpg

• Sparkle Athletic running skirt. I want this in so many colors, but red or pink would be perfect for any Valentine-themed races.
• Chocolate-covered strawberries, because duh, who doesn’t want those?!
• A gift card to get a massage. You can even buy two and make it a date night!
Running fleece wide neck sweatshirt.
• Running jewelry.
Run all the miles, eat all the doughnuts shirt. A great gift for food lovers!
• Also from Sarah Marie Design Studio, heart breaker hill tee.
• Red or pink compression socks.
• A gift card to get a pedicure. I’ve talked about this before, but runner’s need to care for their feet. Our toenails can take a beating during all those long runs.

While gifts are great, just remember to love on your loved ones. Chances are, one-on-one time is best gift you can give them 🙂

Friday Favorites v.85

We finally made it to the end of this snowy week! It’s supposed to be in the 50s this weekend and I am stocked. The snow was pretty, but I’m ready for it to be gone.

1. Oiselle released their Spring 2018 collection! These shorts, this bra, and these shorts are currently sitting in my cart waiting for me to purchase.

2. The headliner for the RnR Nashville concert was announced on Tuesday!

3. I know I’ve said this before, but I am so thankful for my jobs and the fact that I get to share my passion for journalism and communications with others. Even when the days are long, I go to bed satisfied that I shared my knowledge and stories with others.
*Buy a newspaper, save a journalist.

4. Oiselle’s All The Women collection. I seriously just love this brand and everything they stand for. Go check them out if you haven’t already!

5. My post from Wednesday with a quick and easy chocolate chip cookies.
Quick & Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies

6. I’m eyeing these Nike Power Women’s Training Tights — I’m just debating on the color (and for them go on sale)!

7. Boston Marathon elites to watch this year.

8. Waiting for the snow to disappear like:

Friday Favorites v.84

Happy cold Friday from Kentucky! We have ice here and snow is expected to come this afternoon. BRRR!

Tomorrow morning is my last run with my little brother before he heads back to college for the spring semester. It’s been so nice to have company during my long runs and I can’t wait for him to be over the summer. He’s planning on training for a spring half marathon! I think my running bug got passed on to him.

Okay. Let’s talk favorites!

1. Did you all see that Allie Kieffer signed with Oiselle?! I am so excited for her.

2. These beauties!
3. I am all for efficiency. Anne’s make-ahead veggie egg sandwiches are super simple and easy to make. If you need a breakfast idea for next week, I suggest this recipe!

4. Connecting with you all on Instagram! I’ve had so much fun messaging you all and getting feedback from you all on Instagram. If you’re not already following me, do so (@mileswithmeghann)! I share lots of behind the scenes of my life and my real struggles and triumph with marathon training.

5. I’ve been drinking all the soup this week. While we had a couple warm days, it’s back to being freezing cold outside so I’ve treated myself to Great Harvest’s tomato bisque soup twice this week.

6. Target has the most adorable Valentine’s Day decorations in their dollar section! I picked up a few notepads for my desk and I love seeing all the pink and purple — it instantly brightens my mood!

7. BITMOJI. Ryan and I are SO late to this party, but we have been loving sending them back and forth for several weeks now.

8. #NeedASnack Still one of my favorite shirts for Murphy.
